Not true at all - White dismisses McGregor v Diaz 3 rumours

Not true at all - White dismisses McGregor v Diaz 3 rumours

Conor McGregor may very well be plotting his return to the Octagon but reports that he's agreed to meet Nate Diaz at UFC 219 on December 30 are premature. The report was quickly picked up by several publications in Ireland and the United Kingdom, but according to the UFC President White, the Diaz-McGregor rubber match is anything but official.

"Not true AT ALL", White told a fan on Twitter when asked about the speculation.

Prior to taking his talents to the squared circle, McGregor was coming off an awesome performance at UFC 205 which saw him claim the UFC lightweight championship by knocking out Eddie Alvarez.

McGregor's only fight in 2017 to date came in the boxing ring, when one of the most lucrative bouts in the sport's history ended with a comfortable 10th-round victory for Floyd Mayweather Jr in Vegas. Following his vengeance against Diaz, McGregor went on to knock out Eddie Alvarez in eight minutes to take the UFC lightweight title last November. In March of that year, the Stockton fighter scored a second round submission over McGregor.

McGregor, who made the significant jump to welterweight for both contests, avenged his maiden UFC loss five months later at UFC 202 following a typically controversial and agitated build-up, winning a five-round battle by majority decision.

"Get ready, we'll be back in the cage in December", McGregor's coach John Kavanagh claimed the superstar had told him back in June, while around the same time period, UFC President Dana White was indicating that "The Notorious" had informed him of his intention to fight Mayweather and then fight Khabib Nurmagomedov soon afterwards. He has yet to defend the title inside the Octagon; top challengers Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee will square off at UFC 216 on October 7 to determine the interim UFC 155-pound champion.
